Dr. Jennifer Yellen is a Clinical Psychologist practicing in Northern Virginia. She earned her Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree from Fordham University and her Bachelor of Arts (with Distinction in Psychology) degree from Boston University. At Fordham University, her dissertation research focused on family dynamics and the parent-child relationship in families in which a parent had a life-threatening illness (HIV).
Having a life-long passion to understand people and human relationships, it was while taking a Psych101 course during her first semester of Freshman year at Boston University that Dr. Yellen realized she wanted to be a Clinical Psychologist. Dr. Yellen is honored to work with her patients to help them improve their lives and have more fulfilling relationships.
Dr. Yellen has sought out a wide variety of training experiences during her career. Her training experiences include community mental health clinics, a college counseling center, and adult and child inpatient psychiatric units. She completed her Psychology Internship at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Washington, DC and her Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Center for Eating Disorders located at Sheppard Pratt Hospital and St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Yellen gained expertise using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to treat Eating Disorders while working at Sheppard Pratt and St. Joseph’s Medical Center where she worked on an inpatient unit treating patients who were hospitalized for Eating Disorder treatment.
After years of feeling frustrated with using traditional talk therapy to treat trauma with only limited success, Dr. Yellen trained in EMDR and quickly became an EMDR enthusiast when she both experienced it herself and saw how EMDR allowed her patients to resolve trauma so much more quickly and effectively than traditional psychotherapy. Dr. Yellen is an EMDR Certified Therapist.
